My Vegan Candida Diet Journey
So, there I was, successfully transitioned to plant-based diet with all those benefits (which you can learn from here https://youtu.be/Urj6K3qAEDc) when at some point I started to have Candida overgrowth symptoms.
My Candida Symptoms were itching, bloating, cracked corners of my mouth, sinusitis, hay fever, frequent upper respiratory infections, and hypoglycemia.
What made me think of Candida — most women know that if you have itching it’s probably yeast infection. I suspected it was Candida overgrowth but started to be more preoccupied after noticing that when I managed to keep my blood sugar stable, it would reduce the itching significantly, and the corners of my mouth would start to heal.
Why it happened. My take is that I ate too much high-glycemic foods like dried fruits and baked goods made with flours. I would get blood sugar spikes resulting in hypoglycemic episodes later on triggering me to eat even more sweet stuff to balance the blood sugar. To make a long story short I was constantly on a blood sugar rollercoaster, which ultimately contributed to the worsening of my other symptoms.
In addition, I had history with antibiotics having swallowed those numerous times throughout my teens.
The research on Candida overgrowth.
I was able to gather together the principals of Candida diet, but what I failed to encounter was a plant-based meal plan.
This is where I started the massive meal plan combining once again. I followed my vegan Candida diet meal plans and it started to make a difference.
First results came pretty quickly. Within a week there was almost no itching. I stayed on the cleanse diet for almost 3 months and then started to reintroduce starchy veggies, berries and legumes. I assume I went without fruits for almost 6 months.
Coping with the Candida diet.
I’m sure many of you might start to wonder how’s this even humanly possible. How can you deprive yourself from so many yummy foods for so long? The answer is simple really. Your health is the most important thing you have. Once you realize that there’s no turning back. Every symptom that disappears is like a prize you don’t want to give up. You might think that you deserve that piece of cake or you also might think that you deserve to be healthy. I obviously prefer the latter.
Besides human being is a creature of habits. It’s simply the matter of creating new healthier ones. It’s so easy really if you replace your old habit with a healthy and enjoyable one. Go and check out my recipes if you don’t believe that healthy can be darn delicious.
